In January of 2021, I purchased an
Assault fitness Air Runner treadmill. My
old Sole f80 was getting old and needed a lot of work. After a couple of motor
replacements and new deck... I decided
to go curved motorless (and I haven't looked back since). I still prefer
running outdoors, but this treadmill is a game changer. I actually like running
indoors on a treadmill now. And with smart apps like Zwift (and tv), it makes
running inside fun. It takes a while to get used to running on it, probably
20-30 miles, but one thing is for sure: this treadmill will outlast me! I
summarized a few of the pros and cons below.
Pros:
- Immediate speed changes (perfect
for sprint intervals, HIIT etc.)
- No mechanical speed limit (your
body is the limit)
- Slatted deck is very forgiving
on your joints
- Promotes good running form
- VERY Low maintenance with bulletproof engineering
Cons:
- Expensive
- Heavy
- Basic computer functions
(challenging connectivity to smart apps like Zwift etc)
- Steep initial learning curve
(increases efforts, targets different muscles)
- Hard to maintain a steady pace
- Running Indoors can get boring
for some people*
- Unsuitable for distance running
for some people**
*I watch tv or listen to music. I favor outdoor running, but with my knees and foot…. It’s nice to give my body a break. The deck is VERY forgiving.
** I have run many long runs on this sled to include 2x marathons, long runs up to 20 miles, and many half marathons etc.
This will outlast me, and I will
never go back to a motorized treadmill again. I know it is an extremely
expensive purchase, but it is low maintenance and can accommodate any style of
run training.
Thank you, and take care.
Happy running and God bless!

the race, and always keep faith"
