A January to Remember

I think I finished what may have been my last run for the month.  I am very proud to announce that I was able to log about 68 miles, my second best month ever, and lost about 12 lbs!  I got this year off to a great start!

"We will miss you Dakota"

I returned home from work last night for an uneventful 2 mile treadmill workout.  I completed the run and felt pretty good but discovered that we had lost our beloved Samoyed, Dakota.  So sad.....

“Silent Run”

Brandon performed like a champ for his doctor’s appointments today!  This has been haunting our thoughts all weekend, and it’s not completely over yet.  Brandon has his quarterly scans (CT and Ultrasound) tomorrow…..

5-mile treadmill workout and Weigh-in Day

The kids witnessed the first casualty suffered by the treadmill today: a soldier from the game of Risk was tossed into the abyss (trash), due to a violation of Treadmill rule #3: no toys on the treadmill.  This closely follows rules #1 No playing on the treadmill, and rule #2 No playing on the treadmill…..  Needless to say, there will probably be no “high-value” toys left on the treadmill!

4-mile treadmill workout

Today’s planned 2 mile speed-workout was changed to a 4 mile run instead.  I received some encouragement late last night and was motivated to double my run today.  Thanks for the encouragement people (you know who you are)!  “God bless ya!”

2-mile treadmill workout

Quick two-mile run on the treadmill.  I set the speed to 7.1 mph / 1 degree incline (equivalent pace of about 8:30 / mile).  Overall, the run was set at a comfortable pace but my quads are still sore from last night’s run.  I plan on a speed-run tomorrow (at 7.5-8.0 mph) then a longer, slower paced run on Sunday.  We’ll see how that goes…..
Thanks for the visit and have a nice weekend!

Happy running and God bless! 2 Tim 4:7

3-mile treadmill workout

We woke to a wonderful surprise this morning at about 0600L: our furnace electrical control board decided to catch on fire and smolder…..  Not a big deal though, because the fire snuffed itself out.  Thanks to our neighbors for taking us in this morning (while maintenance repaired the problem).  We were lucky the place didn't catch on fire!  Anyways, we were released from work early today due to inclement weather.  I was able to knock out my run sooner than planned today so I could shovel snow ~ yay (in a sarcastic tone).

3-mile treadmill workout

Tonight’s run got off to a late start…..  I left work around 16:45, and started driving home.  We’re supposed to get about 3-5” of snow tonight/tomorrow, so I figured I would try to get out early today and squeeze in a run.  Well, on my way home I couldn’t help but notice a stranded vehicle on the side of the road.  And, to make matters worse, it was on an exit ramp from the interstate; a dangerous place for a pit stop!

4-mile treadmill workout

Tonight’s run was a planned 2 mile run but ended up being a nice, comfortable-paced 4 miler. I set the treadmill speed to 6.8 mph/2 degree incline (equivalent to 8:45/min mile pace) and just ran. Before I knew it, I was at the 2-mile mark and decided to continue. It wasn’t too bad at the 4-mile mark either, but I had to stop and get ready for dinner. Alicia is making one of my favorites – fajitas! That’s worth getting off of the treadmill anytime!

Happy New Year's and welcome to my blog!

OK, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.  We spent the holidays back home in Texas and it was nice to see everyone.  It was a tough drive though (from Ohio), and it took every bit of patience.....  Still, it was worth the 5-6 days of driving to see our family and friends.  Ya’ll are going to have to visit us next time…… Just sayin’
