New Distance PR!

I set a new distance PR with today’s run.  14 miles is now officially the longest single distance I’ve ever run!  I wasn’t too happy with today’s run though, despite the new achievement; I felt very sluggish after mile #10 and was slowing off pace…  I was doing fine up until then (mile #10), but that’s when things started changing.  First, the sun came out and it was already humid!  The temp wasn’t too bad though and there was a slight wind to keep me somewhat cool.

That’s not all…  I developed a blister at mile #12 but sucked it up and continued.  The biggest kick in the nuts was, the fact that I ran out of water…  I was about two miles from home and wasn’t about to quit.  I walked a ¼ mile just to regain focus then finished off the last mile with a slow jog.  It’s done, and I was thinking how crazy it would have been if I had to finish another 10 miles (for a total of 26.2 miles).  I’m trying to figure out that strategy…

5 Miles

Another comfortable evening run…  Wanted to go an extra mile but my body just stopped at 5.3 miles…  I felt fine, just wanted to stop…  I can’t explain it.

Regrouping

I made a critical decision that I think will help me maintain a somewhat decent marathon training plan and also prevent any further (and potentially serious) injury…  Upon guidance from a friend, I modified my training plan and deleted a weekly maintenance run.  This gives me an additional rest day after my long run day…  We’ll see if I can get back on track and finish the full marathon in Sept (yes, we’re inside two months out).

Today’s run was a planned 5 mile workout and I was able to tolerate the heat this evening after work…  I really need to get up early in the morning and knock out the runs but I  have been having trouble sleeping lately…  My allergies are acting up again and my circadian rhythm is off…  I’ll need to get back on a morning workout cycle for sure…  Also, my hydration plan hasn’t been all the great either.  Lessons learned, for sure…  I learned one thing for certain (a personal observation): blisters are much easier to run on after they pop (vs. when they are developing).  I could still feel the sting, but I sucked it up and just ran…

Splits:

#2  8:59
#3  9:32

#5  10:32

5 @ 47:47 (9:34 pace). A comfortable run under a very hot sun…  And, I worked on the tan…  Take care.
